BOW VALLEY CHORUS - BOARD NEWS FOR JANUARY 2015
BOW VALLEY CHORUS - BOARD NEWS FOR JANUARY 2015
Welcome Members and Bow Valley Chorus aficionados in general to our latest window to the Board's activities and to keep you all more fully informed of what's going on and what's next on BVC's Agenda until the end of this new exciting Spring Season 2015.
Our 5th January meeting was called, essentially, to prepare and organize a new season of activities, rehearsals and concerts and as part of our deliberations, we reviewed and discussed the following topics, which arise as part of a New Year and a New Season:-
1. Review of the Fall Season's Full Concert Programme
2. Calgary Performance - 15th January 2015
3. Variety Shows - Organization
4. News from our Music Director
5. Update on Financial Matters - Treasurer
6. Any Other New Topics for Discussion
An expanded version of our discussions follows:-
Review of the Fall Season's Full Concert Programme:
The Board reviewed and analysed each particular performance and concerts, discussed pros and cons and what we could improve or change in future. Poor audience turnout in Banff as compared to Canmore was noted and queried and ideas were put forward to see if and how audiences can be improved. Possible hiring of a Marketing Consultant as well as the setting up of a Marketing Committee were ideas which were considered to be very positive.
Feedback on the Messiah Concert at Cave and Basin was very encouraging and if invited to perform again in the future, points were noted which needed to be improved for the comfort of singers and audience alike.
Calgary Performance - 15th January 2015:
John Goulart reminded us of this upcoming event, stating that approximately 25 members had volunteered to participate and he would be emailing those members the music and other relevant information. Car pooling was suggested.
Variety Show - Mid March 2015
Karen stated that she had already emailed members with a call for participants and volunteers for this important yearly event, which will follow a similar pattern to 2014's fun event. Entire choir participation and attendance is CRUCIAL to support all hard working volunteers and cannot be too vigorously emphasized.
Musical Director's News
John Goulart informed the Board that the Spring Concerts were to feature Karl Jenkins' Requiem and that rehearsals were to commence on 11th January. The Board heard some details as to the possible dates and venues for these performances and welcomed the fact that Evan was to return to help us as an accompanist for the season.
Update on Financial Position for the upcoming Season
Our Treasurer, Tom Paasuke, updated the Board on the latest position, which was encouraging, and answered any questions which arose in connection with the Financial Report.
Any Other Business
In response to a member's comments on membership feedback, the Board discussed ways and means to improve communication and exchange of ideas between the Board and Members in general, so as to incorporate these new ideas as much as possible and develop a feeling of awareness and availability between all concerned.
WE LOOK FORWARD TO WELCOMING NEW AND PAST MEMBERS AGAIN ON 11TH JANUARY AND TO AN ENJOYABLE AND UPLIFTING SPRING SEASON 2015
