John Goulart - Director
It’s hard to believe an organization like Bow Valley chorus has been a major part of my life for 25 years. The time has flown past! I am incredibly proud of the achievements we’ve endeavoured over the past quarter century and the high level of choral music we’ve produced over that time. The relationships created and nurtured with countless people who share the same musical passions has been a great blessing to me, and it’s something I truly treasure. Most importantly, it has been an honour and a complete privilege for me to have been Music Director over these truly blissful years. The beautiful music we’ve made continues to stay with me and give me constant inspiration. Thank you for this incredible opportunity.
This music we feature this season reflects the journey we’ve had. Our first concert featured Mozart’s Mass in C Minor. It is a pleasure to revisit this magnificent work. Some of the sublime music was created by Mozart during the time he wrote it. His wife Constanze was the inspiration for the beautiful solo Et Incarnatus. Mozart’s love of Baroque music also served as a major inspiration for this Mass and his large scale choral movements sound often like he is paying honour to Bach and Handel. The second work on the program is Schubert’s Mass in G. This tuneful work shows Schubert at the height of his talent. His early romantic style comes forth with beautiful solo sections for the soprano framed by elegant choral episodes. I sincerely hope you can join us for our 25th anniversary concerts, as we continue to celebrate the choral experience!
